This section of the Isel is also the quietest. On the main it flows at a leisurely pace, but is also broken up by a few sections which are considerably formidable, yet which are avoidable. A definite highlight is paddling through areas of the town of Lienz. In terms of wild water technical areas, just before the confluence with the Drau is the most difficult section. A cataract, which is split in the centre by a few large stones, can be tackled from the right or from the left. Anyone who wants to exit here should opt for the left through route and land just before Tiroler Brücke, otherwise the route continues to the Cossack graves which is at the bridge, 500 m beneath the Drau/Isel confluence. Here, exit to the right of the banks just after the bridge or continue paddling in leisurely fashion to Nikolsdorf train station.
